Climbing the Rooftop of Africa
In March 2023 KCA led a group including transplant surgeons, kidney specialists, patients and relatives to the rooftop of Africa. This was a journey to complete a circle. Our teams started their work at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre and it was fitting we go back to Kilimanjaro for the first fundraising event of the new charity.
To mark World Kidney Day 2023, 25 trekkers climbed through rainforest and alpine desert to reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m above sea level. The final ascent was made on World Kidney Day with 15 members being successful in conquering Africa’s highest mountain and the world’s highest free-standing mountain.
Thanks to a superb effort from the whole team and our sponsors, we raised over £50,000 for the charity.
The money has been used to create new partnerships with renal and transplant teams and help improve the care of thousands of patients.
